Zielinski Family History
Zielinski Surname Meaning
Polish (Zieliński): from a derivative of zielony ‘green’ in various senses or possibly zioło ‘herb’. It seems primarily to have been a nickname for a person with a sickly ‘greenish’ complexion. It may also have been a nickname for someone who habitually dressed in green or who was ‘green’ in the sense of being immature or inexperienced. This surname (in any of the possible senses; see also 2 below) is also found in Germany. Polish and Jewish (from Poland) (Zieliński): habitational name for someone from any of the many places called with Polish zielony ‘green’ for example Zielin Zielenec or Zielińce.
